A 32-year-old Mapleton man charged with aggravated sexual assault and aggravated burglary has been found mentally competent to stand trial but is expected to plead guilty Dec. 16 to the first-degree felonies as a result of a plea bargain.

Giles, who was examined in the Utah County Jail by two psychiatrists, is charged with threatening and raping a woman last Oct. 14 after allegedly entering the victim's home unlawfully. A second charge of aggravated assault has been dropped.Giles, 383 E. Sixth North, was ruled competent Friday during a competency hearing before 4th District Judge Ray M. Harding.
