A man who murdered an immigrant restaurateur as the man's wife watched was put to death by injection early Tuesday in an execution delayed when a tube from an intravenous needle sprung a leak.
Raymond Landry, 39, was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m.Landry was the 104th person executed in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976 and 11th this year.
Prison officials began administering the lethal dosage at 12:21 a.m. Landry was not pronounced dead until 24 minutes later. In between, a tube attached to a needle inside his right arm began leaking, sending the lethal mixture shooting across the death chamber toward witnesses.
