Of the 31.6 million Americans who suffer from arthritis, about one-third are over age 65. For them, performing even the simplest chores and tasks can be painful.
The Arthritis Association suggests the following to reduce arthritic pain at points of stress:-Don't rest your head on your knuckles or on bent elbows, or press down on your knuckles when getting out of a chair.
-Don't squeeze rubber balls or other objects for "exercise."
-Don't stay in one position for more than 30 minutes.
To avoid strains on fingers: hold a cup in the palm of your hand with your fingers curled up on the sides; use a scrub brush with a h`nhle rather than a scouring pad; and press water out of washcloths and other items between the palms of hands rather than wringing out.
