Tributes from members of Congress and the Reagan administration are pouring in for Rep. Bill Nichols of Alabama, who died suddenly at the age of 70.
"Bill Nichols was a patriot," Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole, R-Kan., said Tuesday after learning of Nichols' death. "He gave selflessly and generously to his country, in times of war and peace. It was an honor to have known him."Nichols, a Democrat, had served in Congress for 22 years. He died at Capitol Hill Hospital Tuesday morning.
Press secretary Tom McMahon said the congressman suffered a heart attack and collapsed in his House office shortly after arriving for work at 7 a.m.
