A Nigerian cargo plane short on fuel crashed into six homes and a school Wednesday, killing the 10 people aboard and injuring four people on the ground, police said.

Police said the aircraft, a Boeing 707 carrying flowers en route to Brussels, Belgium, from the Tanzanian capital of Dar Es Salaam, crashed into the village of Karam Omram, near the city of Luxor and 440 miles south of Cairo. All of the people aboard the plane - a nine-member Nigerian crew and a 51-year-old Egyptian woman - were killed, police said.

Police officials said the jet plane was low on fuel and could not land in Cairo because of low visibility. The aircraft then diverted to Luxor.
