A Provo company will donate use of its phone lines on Christmas so senior citizens can make free long-distance calls to loved ones.
"Senior citizens have made so many contributions in their lives, we wanted to do this for them as a gift of love and appreciation," said Birdie Strong, spokeswoman for the Wirthlin Group, a telephone research company.The Wirthlin Group's 35 phones, all in private cubicles, will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 25. Senior citizens from Provo or Orem may make unlimited calls to points in the continental United States.
Sign-up sheets will be taken to Provo and Orem nursing homes on Dec. 16. Senior citizens who are not in care facilities and would like appointments to to use the phones should call 226-1930 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Wirthlin Group, a national research firm, is located at 1999 N. Columbia Lane, Provo.
