An Arizona federal judge Tuesday sentenced a former Utah businessman, who admitted defrauding Greyhound Leasing and Financial Corp. of $67 million, to five years in prison and fined him $100,000.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Broomfield also ordered Sheldon Player, 39, Mesa, Ariz., to pay $500,000 restitution to Greyhound.Broomfield indicated that Player, a former Vernal resident, was given less than the maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $750,000 fine on three counts of fraud because of his cooperation with prosecutors.
In a brief statement to the court, Player apologized to Greyhound.
Player pleaded guilty March 14, 1986, to two counts of interstate wire transfers totaling more than $6 million an use of a forged letter to support applications for loans from Greyhound.
