The Dallas Mavericks Tuesday cut guard Steve Alford to make room on the roster for forward Roy Tarpley, who is coming off the injured list.

Alford, a former All-American at Indiana, was in his second year with the Mavericks and had played sparingly since joining the pros as a second-round draft pick.
