Senior citizens will have a chance to look at a different kind of housing option.
Utah's first "shared housing" project, 4456 Albright (about 21st East and 45th South) will be open each day through Dec. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. so that interested senior citizens can examine the option.With shared housing, up to eight senior citizens live together in a large house. Each person has private living space and all residents share community areas like the living room, kitchen and yard.
Such a living arrangement allows elderly people to remain in the community without having to pay the high cost of maintaining their own private residence and also provides peer support and friendship, according to the organizers of the project who succeeded in getting legislative approval for it last year.
