Outgoing Salt Lake County commissioner John D. Hiskey will take a position with a local non-profit economic development organization when his commission term expires early next month.

The Utah Economic Development Corporation, an organization of Salt Lake Valley local governments, business representatives and state officials, has announced Hiskey will be responsible for the corporation's business retention and expansion programs.Hiskey, a Democrat, has been filling the remaining commission term of Dave Watson since September. Watson resigned his 2-year commission seat following an earlier guilty plea to misdemeanor drunken driving and attempted drug possession charges. Commissioner-elect M. Tom Shimizu, a Republican, will be sworn in Jan. 4 as two-year commissioner.

Hiskey will assist local firms with developing export markets, with supplying government procurement programs and as business liaison with the corporation.
