A Tooele resident was killed and a Kearns man was hospitalized with serious injuries in a head-on collision here Wednesday evening.

William Beaumont, 77, died in University Hospital, to which he was flown from the accident scene by helicopter ambulance, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ronald Ostler.Carl A. Timmerman Jr., 31, Kearns, suffered a fractured right femur, as well as head and face injuries. He was taken to the Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in stable condition Thursday.

The Beaumont automobile was southbound on U-36 at Lake Point at 5:18 p.m. when it drifted across the center line into the path of Timmerman's vehicle, Ostler said.

"He (Timmerman) would be dead also," the trooper said, "had he not been fastened by his seat belt. Both motorists had seat belts buckled."
