A Salt Lake man pleaded guilty to a charge of vehicle homicide in connection with the death of a West Valley pedestrian and Friday was ordered to serve one year in Salt Lake County Jail and 18 months probation.
Cameron B. Larson, 20, was charged in the death of Dale G. Rowley, 28, who was walking on a sidewalk along 41st South about 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 6 when he was struck and killed by Larson's car.Third District Judge David S. Young, in exchange for the guilty plea, suspended the zero-to-five year prison sentence and $5,00 fine. Larson also was ordered to complete the Orange Street Community Correctional Rehabilitation Program following his release from jail. Two misdemeanor charges were dropped.
A breath test following the accident revealed that Larson had a blood-alcohol level of .20 percent. The legal limit is .08. Larson will pay $980 and fines and restitution.
West Valley Police were initially summoned to the scene to investigate an accident in which Larson's vehicle had struck a large rock. Rowley's body was found in some weeds at the side of the road by witnesses as the investigation was being completed.
