Award-winning poet James Kilgore died along with two other members of his family when flames swept through their frame house, fire officials said.
Kilgore, 60, died along with his daughter Sheila Roseburgh and his grandson, Julius Roseburgh, 19 months.Kilgore won several state and national awards for his work and published nine volumes of poetry, including "Midnight Blast," "The Big Buffalo" and "African Violet: Poem for a Black Woman."
