The Utah Auto Dismantlers and Recyclers Association, made up of Utah auto wrecking yards, is sponsoring a campaign to promote the use of vehicle seat belts.
According to Alice Johansen of Duane's Auto Wrecking, Orem, the association's members, even though they make their living selling used parts from wrecked or used cars, are civic-minded business men and women who care about auto safety."These business owners and their employees are also fathers and mothers with children who drive or who are passengers in automobiles and this gives them plenty of incentive to encourage safe driving and seat belt use."
She said seat belts save more than 9,000 lives each year and prevent hundreds of thousands of injuries.
"Wrecking yards have seat belts available at a nominal cost through December," Johansen said.
