An investigation of the Dec. 8 shooting of Maj. Christy J. Merrick has revealed the woman's gunshot wound was self-inflicted, military spokesmen say.

Joyce Fencl, Defense Depot Ogden spokeswoman, said investigators will continue to interview Merrick's acquaintances before closing the case."All evidence investigators have so far indicates the wound was self-inflicted," Fencl said.

Merrick, 37, remained in serious but stable condition Friday in McKay-Dee Hospital's intensive care unit. A hospital spokesman said Merrick has regained consciousness.
