The story's been a Utah favorite for years.

Now the rest of the nation will get to hear it.Christmas Eve from 5 to 6 p.m. on National Public Radio (KUER-FM 90.1, locally), Ron Carlson will be part of the Noah Adams Christmas Show. Carlson will read his short story, "The `H' Street Sledding Record."

The story is a gentle little holiday piece about a young family on Salt Lake City's Avenues. All the local color and references will remain intact, Carlson says.

"I've had to trim it a bit," he says, "but it's still about 14 minutes long."

The program will be carried by 168 stations.

Carlson was born and raised in Salt Lake City. He has written two novels, but is best known for his recent collection of short stories, "News of the World." One of his stories, "Milk," was included in a recent collection of best short stories of the year, and his short monologues based on tabloid headlines - such as "Bigfoot Stole My Wife" - have been performed by several regional theaters.

He is known for stories that show human foible through a tender, conversational wash of warmth and humor.

For more information on his radio reading call KUER-FM at 581-6625.
