Armed with bird-watching guides, about 70 Salt Lake residents, including Susan Kuziak, left, and Sharon Odekirk, took to the hills, waterways and byways within a 7.5-mile radius of Temple Square Sunday to make the annual Audubon Society bird count. Ella Sorenson, who headed the effort, said some 85 species were spotted, the most seen in recent years. Nationally, more than 1,500 counts were conducted with more than 42,000 volunteers participating.
