Utahns Against Hunger and Peter Piper Pizza have joined forces to generate food donations for emergency pantries along the Wasatch Front and to provide a pizza dinner for 500 needy families during the Christmas holidays.
Donations of canned or other non-perishable food are being accepted from now until Christmas at all Peter Piper locations along the Wasatch Front. In exchange for the donations, the pizza chain is offering $1 off any regularly priced large pizza. The hope is that 20,000 food items will be donated by Christmas Day. If that goal is reached, Peter Piper will donate pizza dinners to 500 low-income Utah families.
The chain will also donate 25 cents to UAH for every food item.
"It's grim to be poor, especially during the holidays," said Grady Walker, special projects coordinator for UAH. "While there are lots of projects to collect canned food and used clothing for the needy, very few provide the poor with some of the quality experiences most of us take for granted.
