It takes expertise and organization to get skiers to their destinations, and SkyWest Airlines is trying to offer both.

SkyWest flies to numerous ski areas in its 44-city route system and is accustomed to special needs of skiing customers, according to John Ligtermoet, vice president of customer service. Ramp agents hand-carry skis from the baggage cart to the customer to avoid damage. In many instances plastic bags are provided to further protect the skis. The airline is flying Metro and EMB-120 aircraft and they have large luggage compartments that make is easy to accommodate bulky sporting equipment.

As a connection carrier for Delta Airlines, SkyWest can provide timely connections, supersaver excursion fares and credit toward Delta's frequent flyer program, Ligtermoet said.
