Egyptian police have shot dead three Moslem militants in a raid on a Cairo apartment, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) said on Tuesday.

It said one of the dead was Sharif Mohammed Ahmed Sharif, accused in the killing of a policemen earlier this month which triggered unrest in the capital's Ein Shams district.MENA said police traced Sharif and two accomplices to the Cairo apartment where all three were killed in an exchange of gunfire.

Interior Minister Zaki Badr said after the killing of the police officer in Ein Shams that the attack would be met with force.
