Fidelity Investments has available a free booklet entitled "Retirement Plans for the Self-Employed.
A Fidelity spokesman said the company will send the booklet to any self-employed person in need of information on retirement planning options. To get the booklet phone 1-800-544-6767 and Fidelity will mail you a booklet the same day.The spokesman said Keogh plans are the most popular, but also the most confusing of the retirement options for the self-employed.
"The key problem is timing. Unlike an IRA, Keogh plans must be set up by Dec. 31," the spokesman said. "A lot of eligible people are unaware of this, miss the deadline, and lose big tax savings."
