A chance return to Temple Square to take in the historical tour brought a little fame Monday to a Kingsport, Tenn., couple.
Teresa Hughes became the 4 millionth visitor to Temple Square in 1988 as she walked through the square's south gate just a half step ahead of her husband, Steve."I was just shocked, that's all, shocked," said Mrs. Hughes when asked her reaction to the news. "We were on the tour when they walked up to us and asked us if we would stay after the tour. They said they would make it worth our while."
For their chance return, the Hughes received the book "The Mormons," autographed by the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a replica of the Christus statue in the square's north visitor center. The Utah Travel and Convention Bureau presented the couple a color picture booklet called "Utah's Wasatch Front."
Other gifts included a Utah T-shirt, video and pin from the state tourism agency, a flight bag from Delta Airlines, dinner certificates from the Marriott and Hilton hotels and a night's lodging in Howard Johnson's hotel.
The couple visited Temple Square on Sunday but did not have an opportunity to take the historical tour, prompting their Monday return. They are in Utah to pick up their 14-year-old son who is attending a nine-week outdoors program.
