Retailers and garbage collectors will be hard at work the days after Christmas and New Year's, while banks and government workers will take a holiday.
With both celebrations falling on Sunday, official observance of Christmas and New Year's will take place on Mondays, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.Closed for the Monday holidays will be banks, savings and loans and credit unions; all government offices; and schools.
But most retail stores will be open to handle the anticipated crowds returning gifts the day after Christmas. City officials said on-street parking will be free on both holidays.
Residential garbage collection in Salt Lake City will be unaffected by Monday holiday observances, meaning residents should have their garbage cans at curb side by 7 a.m. on the regularly scheduled day. Previously, the city had announced that collections would be delayed by one day.
