First Security Foundation is distributing $58,600 in scholarships and grants to Mountain West colleges and universities this year.

Since its creation in 1952, the foundation has awarded more than $940,000 in scholarships and grants to higher education in the region, a spokesman said.This year's contributions to institutions in Salt Lake City include $5,000 in scholarships and $700 in library grants to the University of Utah; $1,400 in scholarships and $275 in grants to Westminster College; and $550 in scholarships to Salt Lake Valley Community College.

Other Utah institutions receiving foundation funds are Utah State University, Brigham Young University, Weber State College, Southern Utah State College, College of Eastern Utah, Snow College, Dixie College and Utah Valley Community College.

In Idaho, the foundation has awarded money to the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, Boise State University, Ricks College, College of Idaho. College of Southern Idaho, North Idaho College, Northwest Nazarene College, Lewis & Clark College, and Eastern Idaho Vocational-Technical College.

The foundation has also contributed to Western Wyoming College in Rock Springs, Wyo.
