Children in five needy Utah County families may not receive a visit from Santa this year unless help from area residents is forthcoming.
The Sub-for-Santa program sponsored by the Utah County division of United Way has successfully found sponsors for 495 families this Christmas.Jeanny Gordon, coordinator for the program, hopes families, groups or individuals in the community will step forward to provide Christmas for the children in the few remaining families.
Families participating in the program are screened to ensure those with the greatest need are included in the program. Sponsors are asked to provide one toy and one clothing outfit for each child. Several families or individuals can join to support a needy family, Gordon said.
