Eleven people died in a sea of fire when a truck carrying highly inflammable plastics smashed into an 18-car pileup on a Taiwan highway and exploded into flames, police said.

At least 20 people were injured in the crash near Yuanlin in central Taiwan late Tuesday night.According to police, the accident occurred after six cars collided in heavy fog and stopped by the side of the road to work out payment. No one was hurt in the original collisions. Seven cars and a tour bus that had stopped to view the earlier accident were then hit by the truck. All were set ablaze.
