The Forest Service and state parks divisions in Utah and Idaho are helping promote the southeastern Idaho-northern Utah area as a center of snowmobile rec-reation, the Cache-Rich Tourist Council was told.

Bruce Olsen, Hyrum State Park supervisor, told the council Tuesday night that he has never seen such cooperation between agencies as he did at a recent meeting on winter recreation."Representatives from Forest Service ranger districts in Logan and Ogden, along with Preston and Montpelier in Idaho were enthused about working with the parks people to develop an interstate snowmobile trail," he said.

Olsen said snowmobile access already is better in this area than in the rest of region, and, "we plan to connect some of the existing trails and create some new ones.

"We have two Sno Cats available, and this week we started grooming a 100-mile trail beginning at Hardware Ranch."

He said plans are to groom to Garden City from the sinks area of Logan Canyon, and, "We are looking at the idea of pulling together a trail past the old Ephraim grave in Blacksmith Fork Canyon."

"The Forest Service in Montpelier is talking about opening the Minitonka Cave to snowmobilers thus keeping it operating year-round," he said.
