Christmas came to the new homeless shelter in Salt Lake City, the Salvation Army and Deseret Industries Wednesday when Fred Meyer stores donated more than $150,000 worth of clothing for men, women and children.

Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis, Maj. Bill Lane, director of the Salvation Army; Patrick Poulin, director of Traveler's Aid; and L. Darwin Whitaker, field manager of Deseret Industries, were all on hand at the shelter, 210 S. Rio Grande, to receive the bounty.The gift also included foodstuffs from the chain's Portland, Ore., warehouse.
