Braving brisk winds and even a few snowflakes, a group of Salt Lake musicians is spreading musical cheer to Salt Lake shoppers at Main and First South. Poor Richard's Brass Quintet - otherwise known as, from left, Lyric Montgomery, Rod Wayman, Ken Wright, Keith Davis and Ina Neumeyer - will play carols at the intersection from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Dec. 23. Dressed in Renaissance garb, a la Poor Richard, the musicians catch the eyes and ears of passers-by. They keep warm during the cold-weather performances with a propane heater. "It's been pretty nice, though, even the day it snowed," said Neumeyer. The group is hired each year by a local property management firm to spread the Christmas spirit with music. Shoppers and downtown business people "drive by and roll down their windows and honk and shout. They love it," said Neumeyer. The group plays Christmas tunes on a tuba, two trumpets, a trombone and a French horn.
