Jurors, going home Tuesday night without reaching a verdict, resumed their deliberations Wednesday in the murder case against three members of the Singer-Swapp family.
The eight-member jury is deciding whether Addam Swapp, Jonathan Swapp and John Timothy Singer are guilty of second-degree murder, or lesser included offenses, in the Jan. 28 shooting death of state Corrections Lt. Fred House.House was killed as he and other officers attempted to arrest the Swapp brothers on the 13th day of a standoff at the Singer property in Marion, Summit County, following the Jan. 16 bombing of the nearby LDS stake center.
Jurors don't appear to be in any hurry to reach a verdict, as they recessed earlier than expected Tuesday night. During the lunch hour, the four women on the panel changed into sweat outfits and had asked the bailiffs to accompany them while jogging.
Meanwhile, the defendants' family members, prosecutors and defense attorneys remained within earshot of the Summit County courtroom where the 11-day trial ended Monday evening. Third District Judge Michael R. Murphy has ordered that those desiring to hear the verdict must be able to arrive in the courtroom no later than five minutes after the jury has announced it has reached a decision.
