SHARE TEEN HELD IN CAR THEFT AFTER 46-MILE CHASE

A juvenile was in custody Thursday after leading deputy sheriffs on a 46-mile chase over icy roads at speeds up to 100 mph.

At 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, the Utah County sheriff's office received a report of a suspicious vehicle near Bergin Mine, west of Elberta. When officers arrived, an adult passenger escaped on foot and a 17-year-old believed to be the driver, tried to ram a sheriff's car before speeding south on U-6.Juab County deputy sheriffs set up a roadblock but the youth evaded them. The one-hour chase ended in Millard County when the youth stopped just short of a tire-ripper road block near Lynndyl.

The teenage boy is being held in the Utah County Youth Home for investigation of felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated assault. The youth is wanted in Winnemucca, Nev., for vehicle theft and in San Jose, Calif., on separate charges.
