SHARE MACKOVIC TO TAKE OVER ILLINOIS A.D. JOB

In a surprise move, University of Illinois football coach John Mackovic will be named the school's athletic director.

Sources at the university said Chancellor Morton Weir will announce the appointment of Mackovic at a news conference today.Mackovic, who was not thought to be under consideration for the post, was chosen over the two reported finalists for the job; Ron Guenther, the university's director of Chicago operations, and Bill Byrne, athletic director at University of Oregon.
