Dominque Bozo, president of the National Center of Photography in Paris, has announced the creation of the Henri Cartier-Bresson International Award in Photography.

The prize of $45,000, the largest photography award to date, will be presented every two years to a photographer who has produced a significant body of work, mostly black-and-white reportage, and who intends to use the funds to carry out a project that otherwise would not have been possible. The award, made possible by a grant from American Express Co. and administered by the National Center of Photography, pays homage to Henri Cartier-Bresson's eminent position in the world of photography. Cartier-Bresson will be one of the international jury of 12 who will decide on the first winner of the prize, to be announced by the end of June 1989.
