Former educator Lester Benjamin Whetten died Dec. 3, 1988, in Walnut Creek, Calif., where he was visiting family.
Mr. Whetten, 84, Provo, was president of Snow College in Ephraim from 1953 to 1956 and director of agriculture at Mesa College, Grand Junction, Colo., prior to that.He also served as director of public relations and dean of general college at Brigham Young University between 1956 and 1972. He was chairman of BYU's Indian Education Department from 1972-73.
He was executive dean of the Chicago College of Osteopathy from 1937-42 and superintendent of schools in Pagosa Springs, Colo., in 1942 and 1943.
Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had served as president of the Mexico City and Guadalajara missions. He had also served as a regional representative for El Salvador, Spain and Portugal.
Funeral will be Dec. 8, 1988, at noon in the Edgemont 2nd Ward Chapel, 555 E. 3230 North, Provo. Friends may call at the chapel 11/2 hours before the service. Interment will be in Eastlawn Memorial Hills, Provo.
