A Los Angeles County firefighter radios his command post early Thursday in Baldwin Park, Calif., as one of several homes burns in the background. The blaze broke out in the neighboring Allen Paper Co., and flames whipped by the Santa Ana wind raced through the northwest section of the city about 17 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, blackening at least seven homes and four commercial structures. Police went door-to-door ordering people from homes. Two other brush fires in Glendale shut five-mile stretch of Ventura Freeway.
