A judge has sentenced a Salt Lake City man convicted of securities fraud to prison and ordered him to pay almost $350,000 in fines and restitution.
Retired Utah County Judge Alan Sorenson Monday sentenced Michael Moore, 50, to eight concurrent terms of up to three years in the Utah State Prison and ordered him to pay $50,000 in fines and nearly $295,000 in restitution.But Jim Barber, Moore's defense attorney, said he will appeal.
In September, a Duchesne County jury found Moore guilty of eight counts of making fraudulent misrepresentations to investors.
Assistant Utah Attorney General Rob Parrish said eight Unitah Basin residents lost "hundreds of thousands of dollars between 1982 and 1983."
Last month, Moore pleaded guilty in federal court in San Diego to two counts of mail fraud. He faces sentencing on those charges Feb. 17.
