SkyWest Airlines reported second-quarter income of $1.39 million on a record $22.5 million in operating revenues, compared to $54,000 in income and revenues of $18.1 million for the same quarter in 1987.
"These significant financial results are particularly encouraging when compared with the operating losses we were experiencing one year ago," said Jerry Atkin, president of the regional commuter airline.For the six-month period ending Sept. 30, SkyWest had $2.26 million in income on $42.67 million in revenues, up from a $542,000 loss in the March-September period last year on revenues of $34.3 million.
SkyWest is in the midst of a $38 million program to replace its Metro II aircraft with improve Metro IIIs.
"This standardization will result in a small increase in capacity, an increase in our scheduling ability, reduced maintenance and improved efficiency," said Atkin.
