NEW STAKE PRESIDENCIES

SHARE NEW STAKE PRESIDENCIES

Stakes have been created in Chesapeake, Va.; La Paz, Bolivia; and Valdivia Chile.

Elder L. Tom Perry of the Council of the Twelve officiated Jan. 10 in the creation of the Valdivia Chile Stake. This makes 49 stakes in Chile.Elder Royden G. Derrick of the First Quorum of the Seventy officiated Jan. 17 in the formation of the Chesapeake Virginia Stake, the 15th stake in Virginia.

Elder Derek A. Cuthbert of the First Quorum of the Seventy officiated Jan. 17 in the creation of the La Paz Bolivia Sopacachi Stake. There are now seven stakes in Bolivia, located in Cochabamba and La Paz.

In addition, changes were made in five stake presidencies.

New stakes

CHESAPEAKE VIRGINIA STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) Created by division of the Newport News and Norfolk Virginia stakes. President - J. Craig Merrell, 37, plastic surgeon, former stake president's counselor, bishop and counselor. Counselors - Richard P. Nielsen, 36, physical therapist, former stake president's counselor, mission president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop's counselor; Adren John Hughes Sr., 52, mental health center program director, former district president and counselor, high councilor, and bishop.

LA PAZ BOLIVIA SOPOCACHI STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) Created by division of the La Paz Bolivia Constitucion and La Paz Bolivia Miraflores stakes. President - Eduardo Gavarret, 31, manager of pharmaceutical products laboratory, former stake executive secretary, stake mission president, bishop and counselor. Counselors - Raymundo Ostojic, 40, manager in a construction materials import business, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and branch president; Carlos Teran, 57, attorney, former bishop's counselor.

VALDIVIA CHILE STAKE: (Jan. 10, 1988) Created from a district in the Chile Osorno Mission. President - Armando Ambrosio Linco, 30, forester, former district president, branch president, elders quorum president's counselor, and ward Sunday School president. Counselors - Mario Jorge Faundez, 29, builder, former district president's counselor; Juan Saldivia, 52, home building teacher, former district president's counselor, branch president and counselor.

LA PAZ BOLIVIA CONSTITUCION STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) President - Sixto Quispe, retained. Counselors - Juan Carlos Medrano, 35, computer systems analyst, former high councilor, stake executive secretary, stake mission president and ward executive secretary; Benjamin Ayllon, 48, accountant, former ward executive secretary.

LA PAZ BOLIVIA MIRAFLORES STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) President - Justino Martinez, retained. Counselors - Carlos Bernardino Alarcon, retained; Jose David Angulo, 49, military officer, former bishop and branch president.

NEWPORT NEWS VIRGINIA STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) President - James Madison Russell III, retained. Counselors - Jay A. Carey Jr., retained; Michael Nolan, 45, U.S. Air Force officer, former high councilor and bishop.

NORFOLK VIRGINIA STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) President - Daniel C. Dill, retained. Counselors - Matthias P. Niepraschk, retained; John Lee Blackburn, 38, landscape architect for U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command, former stake executive secretary, high councilor, bishop, and elders quorum president.

PUNTA ARENAS CHILE STAKE; (Jan 17, 1988) President - Robinson Daniel Aguero, 35, supermarket executive, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and branch president. Counselors - Mario Lorenzo Leon, 25, duct installer at methanol plant, former high councilor, stake executive secretary, seventies quorum president, and ward mission leader; Juan Ramon Perez, 34, Air Force officer, former high councilor, elders quorum president, and branch Young Men president.
