Last August, Dr. Brent W. Lambert, a prominent cataract surgeon and former stake president, traveled with his family to East Africa to operate at Maua Methodist Hospital in rural Kenya. Before leaving, he trained his wife, Kitty, and daughters, Erika, Kristin and Rebecca, to serve as his surgical team.

Dr. Lambert and several ophthalmologists from other parts of the United States met with 1,300 patients and performed more than 100 surgeries during a two-week period. The doctor also trained two Kenyan ophthalmologists from Meru, 60 miles away from Maua, in interocular lens surgery. "It was a rewarding and worthwhile endeavor and there is certainly a great need for continued efforts," said Lambert, gospel doctrine teacher in the Hingham, Mass., Ward. "I look forward to returning in the future."
