Vietnamese biologists reportedly have sighted a rare Indochinese gray ox for the first time in nearly 20 years, raising hopes the endangered species can be saved from extinction.

A newspaper published Monday by the World Wildlife Fund said the animal, called a kouprey, was seen last year by a Vietnamese team in a densely forested area near the Laotian border. The sighting was revealed in January at an international conservation meeting in Hanoi, the fund said.
