The City Council informally agreed Wednesday to award food-service rights at the new golf course to the owners of Payson's Silver Rush restaurant.
The new restaurant, tentatively named the Silver Rush II, will offer steaks, shrimp and salads in hopes of attracting upscale evening customers and convention business, in addition to daytime golfers. The City Council will provide a $40,000 budget for equipment, and tenants Dixie and Gary Kirgan will pay $200 rent per month. Utilities will be divided. The terms of the agreement will be renegotiated in 1990, when the business has established a name for itself."We don't feel like we have to make a fortune from the beginning," said Mayor Curtis Arrington at an earlier meeting. "But we have a great golf course and we don't want to lose business because of problems with food service. We are looking for experienced people who can build a quality restaurant."
The restaurant budget will stretch further thanks to a donation this week of 200 tables and several sinks and counters. The local business that offered the items prefers not to be identified.
