A convicted murderer accused of assaulting a woman April 5 has been ordered to appear in 3rd District Court to face the charges.

Larence M. Holt, 66, who barricaded himself inside his home then tried to commit suicide following the incident, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

Holt waived his right to a preliminary hearing before 5th Circuit Judge Sheila McCleve, who ordered him bound over to the district court, where Holt will enter a plea.

The prison parolee was arrested by police, who fired tear gas into his home, 959 Genessee Ave., the afternoon of April 5. About two hours earlier, Holt pointed a gun at a woman near his home and threatened to "blow her brains out," according to the charges.

When police entered the home, they found Holt had stabbed himself in the stomach and cut his throat. He spent about a week in the hospital before being booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Holt was paroled in 1978 after serving 12 years for first-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
