A Provo woman has been bound over for trial on an attempted murder charge in connection with the stabbing of her 2-year-old son Friday in their home.

Dixie A. Madsen, 34, 1375 W. Fifth North No. 153, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree, a second-degree felony, during her initial court appearance Monday in 4th Circuit Court. She waived a preliminary hearing and was scheduled for arraignment April 28 in 4th District Court. Judge E. Patrick McGuire ordered her held in the Timpanogos Community Mental Health Center, as she has been since her arrest Friday.

Police found Brandon Madsen with a stab wound in his chest after a neighbor had administered first aid to the boy and called authorities. A Utah County attorney's office report says Dixie Madsen had phoned the neighbor.

The boy was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical center and later transferred in critical condition to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The child is now in good condition.

The boy's 4-year-old brother, who apparently witnessed the stabbing, is in care of the state Social Services Department.
