Dr. L. David Hiner, University of Utah professor emeritus and former dean of the U. College of Pharmacy, died April 6, 1988, in Salt Lake City. He was 82.

Dr. Hiner was noted for helping lift the College of Pharmacy to national prominence after becoming its first dean in 1947. He retired in 1970.Born in Platte, S.D., he attended South Dakota State College, where he graduated with bachelor's and pharmaceutical degrees. He later earned his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Florida.

He taught and did research at the University of Florida, South Dakota State College and Ohio State University before coming to Utah. He served on many professional pharmaceutical and education committees and boards, as well as civic organizations.

Funeral will begin at 2:30 p.m. April 8 at 3401 Highland Drive, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. (Obituary on B4.)
