A man accused of stabbing a woman to death in front of her son will appear in 3rd District Court to plead to a charge of second-degree murder.

Juan Jose Lopez Jr., 22, appeared in a preliminary hearing before 3rd Circuit Judge Dennis Fuchs, who ruled there was enough evidence to try Lopez on the charges.

Lopez, also charged with felony child abuse, is accused of entering the apartment of Cindy Redfox Hernandez, 32, 218 W. Fourth North, on March 2 and stabbing her with a knife. The woman's 7-year-old son, who witnessed the slaying, told police Lopez choked him with both hands and with an electrical cord, according to the charges.
