A 3-year-old boy was listed in critical condition with head injuries at Primary Children's Medical Center after being struck by a car about 1:10 p.m. Saturday, said Salt Lake police.
Lt. Steve Diamond said Todd D. Welcher, 178 E. 3160 South, was hit outside his baby sitter's house at 1969 S. West Temple when he darted out between parked cars and into traffic while trying to cross the street. The child had been playing with other children in the baby sitter's yard just before the accident.
The children often cross the street to play in a grassy area on the other side of West Temple, Diamond said.
