Arraignment has been set for May 23 for a Bountiful man charged with counterfeiting at Gateway Printing, 545 W. Sixth South, Bountiful.

Steven R. Devey is to be arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Ronald N. Boyce on a felony complaint issued by the U.S. Attorney's office. Also charged, in Los Angeles, is Roderick Phillip Sweet, Bountiful, listed as Devey's partner.

On Friday, U.S. Secret Service agents seized $150,000 in counterfeit $20 bills in Los Angeles and arrested Sweet there, and arrested Devey at the print shop after finding $122,000 in fake bills.

A court document alleged that Secret Service Agency Bruce Towsend, Los Angeles, worked undercover in investigating the case, having several telephone conversations with Sweet.

An agent in Salt Lake City followed Sweet from Gateway Printing on Friday, and saw that he boarded a flight to Los Angeles, the document says.

He was "carrying a suitcase and travel bag," and when he arrived in Los Angeles he was arrested.

Boyce has allowed Devey to be released on property bond.
