One of two men charged in the severe Valentine's Day beating of a Logan man has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge in the assault of two teens earlier the same evening.
In return for the plea by Tracy Kendrick, 19, Providence, 1st Circuit Judge Ted Perry dismissed two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of simple assault, all misdemeanors. Perry set sentencing for May 31.
Kendrick and Shayne Rhodes, 18, of Millville, were charged in attacks on the two youths. Rhodes is awaiting trial on the charges.
Doug Brady, deputy Logan city attorney, said he will push for the maximum sentence for Kendrick, which is a $1,000 fine and six months in jail for the misdemeanor assault.
Meanwhile, a preliminary hearing has been set for May 27 for the two men on charges of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, in the Feb. 15 beating of H. Dean Hawker in a gravel pit east of North Logan.
