The Utah County Commission will now check all warrant registers at Timpanogos Community Mental Health Center to guarantee that expenditures are approved by the commission, said Commissioner Gary Anderson.

Expenditure approval "will be a part of the regular (Utah County Commission) session from now on," he said. The decision to approve center warrant registers comes in the wake of a fiscal scandal at Timp Mental Health. Last month legislative auditors found that center officials has misused more than $3.5 million in funds during a four-year period.

Wasatch County Commissioner Larry Duke said, "Utah County is doing it because they have the resources and the center is located there." Wasatch and Summit counties are also part of the Timp Mental Health program. Commissioners from each county sit on the center's Authority Board.

Commissioners won't look at every check that is written but will look at the warrant list of money paid to individuals for salaries and contract work, he said.

Next Monday the interim management team will hold informal hearings for suspended officials.
