KLUB Radio will be "born again" in June - becoming KISN-AM.
At 570 on the AM dial, KLUB is going to become a simulcast of sister station KISN (FM-97.1) during the day (probably starting as early as June 1, or as late as June 8), according toKISN/KLUB station manager Randy Rogers.
Although the KLUB name will be gone, the former station's strong emphasis on sports will not disappear. Sports director Dave Blackwell's sports program will air from 5-7 p.m. on KISN-AM only, while KISN-FM will continue it's musical format during that time period.
KISN-AM will also continue to broadcast the Salt Lake Trapper games in the summer and the Utah Jazz games next season. After the games, KISN-AM will return to a simulcasting of KISN-FM, with its regular format geared for the 18-49 age group.
KLUB morning host Mike Runge and newscaster Chris Maathuis will not be a part of the new AM station's format, nor will "Talknet."
Rogers said that the KLUB-to-KISN change isn't actually a financial move as far as KLUB having lost any money. Nor is the change a bad reflection on any of the KLUB announcers.
He said the move involves taking advantage of a hole in the local radio market - the lack of any adult "hit" radio stations on the AM dial.
FM broadcasting is where the money is in radio today, with KSL and KALL being rare exceptions.
Some other Utah radio stations like KMGR, KSOP, KFMY and KJQN have been simulcasting their FM formats on the AM side for several years now.
KISN and KLUB share the same studios, offices and owners
(BU) KSL (AM-1160) will air the Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals game Saturday at 5:50 p.m.
